USDA Eligible Areas in Louisiana

Where USDA loans work — and how to check if a property or address qualifies using the official USDA map.

Many homebuyers search for USDA eligible areas in Louisiana or the USDA property eligibility map because they want to know where USDA rural development loans are available. The answer is determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program. Many areas in Louisiana outside major city centers qualify — including pockets in and around Shreveport, Bossier City, and numerous rural parishes. Eligibility is address-specific, so the best way to check is the official USDA property eligibility map. This page points you to the map and explains what to look for. For the full picture — zero down, income limits, and who USDA works best for — see our USDA loans in Shreveport and Bossier City guide.

If you already have a property in mind — or want to know if you qualify — I can check it for you quickly and give you a clear answer.

How to Check USDA Eligibility in Louisiana

The United States Department of Agriculture provides an eligibility map where you can enter an address and see whether the property is in a USDA-eligible area. The map shows general eligibility zones; final approval also depends on income limits, property condition, and loan guidelines. I'm happy to help confirm eligibility before you start house hunting.

Where USDA Loans Often Work in Louisiana

USDA designates eligible areas by census block — so there's no single list of "eligible parishes." In general, rural and many suburban areas across Louisiana qualify. In northwest Louisiana, communities in Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto, and surrounding parishes frequently have eligible zones; some parts of Shreveport and Bossier City may qualify while others do not. Elsewhere in the state, small towns and areas outside New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and other urban cores often qualify. The only way to know for a specific address is to use the USDA map or have us run an eligibility check.

The biggest mistake I see? People assume a property won't qualify — when it actually does.

And the opposite is true too.

USDA eligibility is address-specific, and it's not always obvious just by looking at a map.

More Than Location: Income and Property Rules

Even if a property is in an eligible area, you must meet household income limits for the county and the property must be your primary residence. For full details on income limits, zero down payment, and who USDA loans work best for, see our USDA loans in Shreveport and Bossier City page. We'll help you confirm both location and income so you know if USDA is an option before you make an offer.
